Not quite a Bat-Rep

Good afternoon! and today I have not quite a bat-rep for you (mainly because I forgot to take pictures or make a note of what happened turn to turn). The motivation for this game was an upcoming tournament in August being held in Cardiff. Before I decide one way or another, I wanted to get a feel for the size of games played at the tournament (1750pts) and whether or not I could field a reasonable list at this size without creating too much work for myself (as it is, I have to finish painting and then base everything in the list!!). After the break you will find the list I played and a couple of high lights from the match against my brother, who fielded the Chaos Space Marines.

Now that I have regained my sense of balance / taste and can now focus my eyes beyond the 4′ distance, I can unequivocally state that I have just recovered from one of my most fun weekends in recent history! Anyone who has decided to keep an eye on my gallery page will have already noticed the pictures arriving (and hopefully checked through them too!). My buddy Nick, over at RaneProjects.com has already made a decent write up of the event if you want to check that, but if you are too lazy, just read more ;)

As a prelude to a blind doubles tournament coming up on Tuesday at the Exeter Inquisition club, I decided to take my chosen 750pts worth of Blood Angles and just pit them against an unsuspecting victim to see how they fared standing on their own two feet. The results were quite shocking!

Random Ramblings

So it is that time again when I see it is coming up to the end of my blogging week (runs from Wednesdays) and that I have still yet to post anything. So this week, rather than a post of a specific subject, here are some random items and info on what I have been up to recently that may be interesting to some of you.

Event Report: Ronon’s First Birthday

I figure I might as well use my rather under-used Event Report category for this as it was a rather grand event. My mate from RaneProjects’ son (and my Godson) had his first birthday back on the 19th, and the weekend was dedicated to celebrating it. Although really at that age the partying is more for the benefit of the adults than the child in question. Read more to hear about how the weekend fared :)

Doh! Nearly another week!

Dammit! I nearly screwed up again this week! The annoying thing is that I even sat down yesterday to write a blog post but my mind went blank.

I have been busy!

And I don’t know how I quite manage to fit it all in. After a couple of weeks of seemingly having no time to do anything, this weekend just gone I have managed to fit in 2 Warcraft raids, a hefty chunk of assembling and painting on my first assault squad, a trip to Games Workshop to observe some table construction with a trip to Nick’s on the way home, a decent sized dose of Dragon Age: Origins flavoured Xboxing and catching up to date with all my TV series and finding time for a movie too. Add sleep to this equation too and I have no idea how I got it to fit in the short 48 hrs of the weekend! Look after the jump for a more in depth look at what I have been up to.

Follow up: Wow! (and not the MMO kind!)

Right, home, fed, watered and relaxing so I can write the update I promised on Twitter. I had a truly great time at Games Workshop this evening and can thoroughly consider myself strapped in for the long haul. So long infact, I now have (in my possession for the most part, some things are being delivered) a 1500 point army! But more on that later. I shall try to recount the evening somewhat chronologically…

So my curosity got the better of me…

… and I ended up visiting the Exeter branch of Games Workshop looking to find out some more about the specifics of what I needed to consider to get into this fun looking hobby. I had heard that it can be a bit pot luck on the quality of the advice given, but I had a very pleasant chat with a staff member and another customer (neither of which I got names for) and I feel very much more informed and determined to do this WH40K thing with my army of choice, the Blood Angels.

Blood Angels, Red FuryI have just finished reading the 2nd (or 3rd, depending how you count) book from the Blood Angels saga, penned by James Swallow. Wow – I really could not put the book down for the last few chapters as I could not imagine how it could possibly end beneficially for the heroes of the story!
