Well its been over a week and here are my thoughts on DA:O. This is what I have heard as the “spiritual successor” to Baldurs Gate from way back when, fantasy era RPG made by Bioware of KotOR and Mass Effect fame. Go on… read more, I know you want to!

Urgh, rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated… or so I am led to believe, I am still not to sure myself. But so that the backlog of things I wish to write about does not become unmanageable I have forced myself to sit and bash out a couple of articles at least!
Just a Geek is a book written by Wil Wheaton (yes “him” from Next Generation) and it sits somewhere in a no-mans-land between biography, collection of short stories, and archive of his website, possessing attributes from all of these, but refusing to be classified into one category.
I have just finished reading the 2nd (or 3rd, depending how you count) book from the Blood Angels saga, penned by James Swallow. Wow – I really could not put the book down for the last few chapters as I could not imagine how it could possibly end beneficially for the heroes of the story!
Between this game and its’ prequel, it is all the reason anyone needs to own a PS3. The first game looked gorgeous and really put a boot in the ass of the adventure / explorer genre (something that Tomb Raider has been struggling at lately). This sequel improves on just about everything, and it’s as much joy to watch someone else play as it is to play yourself, such are the spectacle and cinematographic set pieces the player finds himself in.

For me, this is the game of the year for 2009. The combat is smooth and intuitive, the detective work while a bit simplistic fits in nicely and the story flows along at a nice pace. The only points that could have been improved a bit was the length of the game and its tendency to re-use boss fight mechanics (Mutated thugs, Bane and the Joker at the end were all a bit too similar). It is a testament to the game that almost immediately after I had
completed it, I started up a new game and plowed through a second run on the next difficulty up.
