For a hyper violent game based on a literary masterpiece such as The Divine Comedy, Dante’s Inferno was always going to be an “interesting” game. I have played the first level and a half, having entered the first circle of hell. Read more for my impressions.
From a glance it takes most of its’ inspiration from the God of War series of games. The opening level starts off pretty weak and left me feeling like this game was a cheap copy of the iconic Playstation series. As time has gone on however, the game has grown on me and I have found that it does have a strength of its’ own, albeit rather well hidden beneath a seemingly cheap veneer.
I actually rather look forward to completing this game and the promise of an upcoming DLC pack that will add multiplayer co-op as well as a rudimentary level builder! Both of these are firsts for this kind of game, and finding out more about its implementation and effectiveness are rather enticing prospects!
